Regular price 10.900€Add to cart
Stunning antique tapestry from the 18th century with a "verdure" scene. It belongs to the Flemish school, so it was probably made in Brussels or in workshops in Oudenaarde.
In the background, architecture can be seen that could represent a villa or palace, reinforcing the idea of a noble setting. A horseman with a hunting dog also appears, which could relate to the aristocratic fondness for hunting and leisure in nature.
The colors have faded over time, but a palette of ochre, green, and blue tones typical of Flemish tapestry of the period is still clearly distinguishable. The decorative border with floral and plant motifs is a characteristic feature of Baroque tapestries.
This tapestry was likely woven on a high-warp loom, a method used in prestigious workshops. The level of detail in the depiction of the drapery folds, vegetation, and backgrounds indicates painstaking work by highly skilled artisans.
